During these uncertain and challenging times, it is easy to focus on personal loss or sacrifice. It is easy to know your own struggle. A lost wage, job or personal freedom for most. Overworked and overwhelmed frontline workers. Or the loss of loved ones for hundreds of thousands of Americans and even more around the world.
During this time, as we may struggle, it is important for us to look at our human family around the world. We need to see outside of our bubble of freedom privilege and remember the many who do not live with the same luxury of basic human rights.
The front line health workers in China do not enjoy this luxury. They do not live with choice. They are ordered away from their families with the fear of imprisonment if they disobey. They are forced to wear PPE until their face is bleeding and then forced to bandage the wounds and continue working. They are not allowed bathroom breaks, because they would have to change their PPE, so they are given adult diapers and expected to carry their waste inside if their bodies or in their diapers for their entire shift. They sleep at the hospitals and do not get to see their families.
With this painting I am saying that I recognize you, and even if you live a life in a culture where you may not recognize your god-given human rights because you do not enjoy them I am feeling that loss for you.
And it is a reminder to Americans and other free people around the world who enjoy the luxury of choice. Appreciate your freedom and fight for the freedom of others.
I am selling 17”x20” prints of “Mask” for $150. All proceeds will be donated to humanitarian causes fighting for human rights.
